Pond Plant Packages

These plant packages will help you get your pond CLEAR and help remove algae WITHOUT using algaecides!

Very easy to install. Most of the plants in these packages you'll simply just "DROP-IN".  Please be sure and add our FREE "How to Plant Pond Plants Flyer" to your order. add to cart This sheet will help those of you that do not know how to plant pond plants.

PLANTING SUGGESTIONS:  We suggest using pea-sized to medium-sized gravel as a base substrate in your pond.  A nice 5 or 6" + layer on the bottom will suffice.  The gravel will trap allot of debris which over time will decompose and help to neutralize your pH to 7.0.  The gravel base will also work great for you to plant your bog plants and lilies/lotus into without the use of unsightly containers.   If you have planting pockets, fill them with gravel as well.  If you are determined to use planting containers such as plastic pots, you should use only gravel as your substrate, using soil will usually only pollute your pond, look terrible, an will eventually need to be replaced anyway.  Never use manure or compost as this will really open up a can of worms for you!  Make sure you poke coles in your containers so the roots can breathe or they will just rot away.  All your water plants will get their nutrients from fertilizers you add to your planting container or from the fertilizer and natural nutrients that are in your pond.

Please note that sometimes subs will be made in place of other plants in the event is it out of season.

Here's a checklist of some items you might need to keep your pond healthy:

1. Make sure you are broadcasting Pond Salt every 2 weeks to your pond to keep down algae, kill bad bacteria, and help promote healthy gill function!

2. Add Microbial Tabs monthly to help grow good bacteria.

3. Add Barley Straw in your waterfall or skimmer to curb algae!

4. Add Algae Eating Snails and FlagFish to your pond, they won't eat your plants and they will eat all of your hair algae and blanketweed!

5. Are you using a good Fish food to feed your Koi? Cheap fish foods usually contain Phosphates, which will encourage MORE algae growth.  Phosphates occur naturally, IN ABUNDANCE, in ALL bodies of water, so you don't need to add anymore.  Our foods are made from all-natural organic ingredients and contain NO Phosphates!

6. You must add fertilizer to your pond to grow your water plants!  There are 2 kinds of fertilizers:    Bunched plants and Floating plants take in nutrients through the leaves, so you will need to use a liquid fertilizer, and lilies, lotus and all bog plants take in nutrients through their roots so you will want to use a root tablet.

If you need help setting up a monthly pond maintenance schedule or need more advice, just call us.   520-971-1357.  We're happy to help!

Whiskey Barrel or Small Patio Water Garden package

Here's a great idea for a simple and inexpensive water garden: Visit your local hardware store (Home Depot, Lowe's, Target or even Michael's Arts/Crafts store), and buy one of those attractive foam pots. You know, the ones that look like they weigh a ton, but actually only weigh a couple pounds. They usually cost about $20 or so. Make sure you buy one that does NOT have the bottom drilled out for draining. You will simply add the plants from this package to your new container and add water. The snails don't reproduce and won't eat your plants, they will only keep the container 'algae-free'. There is no need for a pump to oxygenate the water because the 'hornwort' and 'parrot's feather' will do that naturally. (You could always add a small inexpensive pump if you wanted to have a trickling noise.) In addition, you could add some small guppies or feeder goldfish if you want them to eat any larvae that might be laid by flying bugs. This is a self-contained system that you would only need to 'top-off' with water on occasion due to evaporation. The fish will feed off of the plants and bugs, the plants will produce oxygen, and you will have a beautiful little water garden that you just built in less than an hour to look at for years to come! Good Luck.

(The picture of our small water garden is an example only. The actual package you get includes several beautiful upright marginals which will add taller plants to your garden, creating a nicer contrast)
