Plumeria Plants (Frangipani)
The Plumeria also known as the Hawaiian Lei flower, is native to the warm tropical areas of the Pacific Islands, Caribbean, South America and Mexico. They can grow to be large shrubs or small trees in mild areas of the U.S.
In tropical regions, Plumeria can reach heights of 30' to 40'. Their widely spaced thick succulent branches are round or pointed, and have long leathery, fleshy leaves in clusters near the branch tips. Leaves tend to fall in early winter since they are deciduous and sensitive to cold. In cold climates plumeria should be grown in containers.
Plumeria make beautiful potted plants for patios or greenhouses. In milder climates where night time temps get no lower than 40 degrees, plumeria can be grown outdoors in the ground, where they can make small trees. When temps drop into the low 40's they may be stored in their containers or uprooted carefully trying to take as much root as possible and stored over winter in a heated basement or garage where temperatures are kept above freezing. As soon as temperatures rise outdoors they can be brought out and planted again. They will resume growth, leaf out and begin to grow as if nothing happened. They flower with incredible fragrances of jasmine, citrus, spices, gardenia, and coconut. Flowering can last up to 3 months.
Plant in a sandy/organic soil mixture or Cactus or Rose Soil Mix. Good fertilizer is one that has a high middle number like Schultz' Bloom Plus 10-60-10. We ship plumeria as a root cutting about 8" to 15" tall. Ready to plant! WE SELL ASSORTED COLORS - Red, White, Pink & Yellow |
