Native to Southern US and North Mexico
Habitat: Occur in lagoons, especially at the mouth of the Panuco drainage.

Maximum Standard Length: 12"
 
Provide lots of rocks, wood and open spaces in the aquarium for the Carpintis so they will be more relaxed in the aquarium.  Plants rooted in the substrate will likely be uprooted as the Pearlscale Cichlid is a digger!

This fish is an Omnivore.  It will accept dry foods with no problem.  Feed a high quality cichlid pellet as the main staple.  Will appreciate brine shrimp and frozen foods as well.
