The Oranda is one of many varieties of Goldfish that is produced in a multitude of colors. Originally from parts of Asia, Japan, and China, Goldfish now enjoy worldwide distribution due to controlled breeding programs. The Oranda is a metallic-scaled fish, and this variety of Red & Black is an import item from Japan and one of our favorite color forms.
All Goldfish are members of the carp family and are very hardy.
The Oranda will do well in a tank of 20 gallons of water or more with a fine gravel bottom and hardy plants, as well as ponds. Goldfish are diggers and will scatter the fine sand onto leaves. Roots and well-rounded river rocks are great decorations.
Goldfish are omnivorous, and will eat all types of dried and live foods. Limit protein, however, to 30% of the diet. A Goldfish pellet food will provide these fish with the proper nutrition.
