Plantago major ‘Rubrifolia’
 
This is an ornamental red-leaved form of a plant commonly thought of as a lawn weed.  It forms a clump of leathery bronzy-purple leaves, which develop particularly good red color in the autumn.  Insignificant spikes of green flowers should be cut off to prevent self seeding.  This plant offers an amazingly good ornamental value, adapting well to dry areas as well.  Most seedlings that appear will come true to form.  Probably hardy down to Zone 2 or colder.  Extremely easy, this is practically a grow-anywhere plant although leaf color will be best with some direct sun.  Good deer resistance.
