Neon Green Tetra Paracheirodon simulans A.k.a. False Neon Tetra, Green Tetra
Native to South American rivers. It is mostly found in forested areas, in sluggish blackwater tributaries off main river channels. The water here is typically stained dark brown with humic acids and other chemicals released by decaying organic material. You will want to use Peat granules/blackwater extracts for best results. The pH can be as low as 3.0 or 4.0! The dense rainforest canopy above means that often very little light penetrates the water surface. The Green Neon Tetra is almost identical to the Cardinal Tetra except these are much easier to keep for almost any hobbyist. Green Neon Tetras should be kept in at least a 10 gallon aquarium. So because of the region of the world where they are from, they will do best in soft water and low light. Floating plants are ideal and may be used for shelter from bright lights. Feed small fish food formulas or feed live or frozen food once a week or while conditioning only. Do not use live or frozen food as a staple food for these fish. These are Ominvores so the Green Neon Tetra will take almost any food you give to it.
Very Peaceful. Like other tetras, the Green Neon must be kept in a school of at least 6 or more. Green Neon Tetra
