Pristella Tetra

Pristella maxillaris

The Pristella tetra is a fantastic fish for the freshwater fish beginner hobbyist.  These are very hardy, peaceful fish and will do well in broader ranges of water parameters than other tetras.  The Pristella tetra should be kept in schools of at least 6 or more.  Pristellas tetras may get to be about 2 inches max (5 cm) and they are sometimes called the X-Ray tetra because of its almost transparent body.  This tetra is a good eater and will accept small fish food formulas including flakes, frozen, freeze dried and live foods.  A great substitution for Rummynose Tetras which are much more delicate to keep.
