Bolbitus Heudelotii - Aquarium Plant
IT'S BACK! a.k.a. African Water Fern
Bolbitus heudelotii
Light: Low to Medium
Native To: West Africa
A fern with multipinnate (branch-like) fronds (leaf-stalk). The unusual leaves range in color from dark green to a light translucent green depending on conditions. Leaf size also depends on conditions. It has a rhizome with dark brown or black roots. Do NOT plant this in substrate. Attach to items like wood, rocks, pots, but do not bury the roots in substrate or this plant will die. Generally it is an easy to grow true aquarium plant. Just don’t make it harder than it needs to be. Get it attached to something and leave it alone. It will grow and quite possibly become one of your favorites. African Bolbitus is GREAT for lower light aquariums, or tanks that get neglected. This plant also does well in tanks that have high water flow as well! By the way, if you do well with this one, you may also enjoy growing Lace Java Ferns.
