Secret To Growing Fabulous Plants....

Flourite Substrate
Fracted
Porous Clay Substrate for the Natural Aquarium
|
|
Flourite
is a specially fracted stable porous clay gravel for the natural
planted aquarium. Although it may be mixed with other gravels,
Flourite is best used as an integral substrate bed. Any mixture
should be at least 50% Flourite. Gravel modifiers such as
"Laterite" are not necessary. Flourite is not chemically
coated or treated, and will not alter the pH of your water.
Although prewashed, it should be rinsed before use to remove
residual dust. Slight initial cloudiness is normal and will
clear rapidly. Each 7kG (15.4 lb) bag is sufficient for about
a 2 inch deep bed in a typical 10 gallon tank. Recommended
use is 1 kG for about each 31 inches of tank bottom.

Onyx Sand Substrate
|
|
Following in
line with the tremendous success we have seen with Flourite, SeaChem has investigated other possible
substrates for aquariums. We are now proud to offer Onyx Sand.
Naturally sourced fracted substrate for both saltwater
and freshwater aquaria. Onyx Sand
is exceptionally concentrated in iron and supply other
important nutrients such as magnesium and manganese. Gravel
modifiers such as laterite are therefore not necessary.
Though very effective for freshwater planted aquaria, Onyx Sand
is useful in all aquarium
applications including saltwater, reef, or African cichlid
aquaria. Additionally, Onyx Sand
provides a slight buffering capability that works to stabilize
pH for the long term success of any aquatic environment.

AAG Super Peat Granules
|
|
Peat Granules are a
select granular peat ideal for use in freshwater aquariums. This concentrated,
safe, natural filter media provides optimal water conditions for many species of
fish originating from specific tropical environments. Many species of fish can
benefit from the compounds found in Peat Granular. Examples include
species of South American Cichlids (Angelfish, Discus, Apistogramma etc.),
Corydoras Catfish, Tetras, Gouramis and Barbs. Peat Granular releases
beneficial elements and will contribute to vibrant colors, enhanced breeding
success, and superior conditions for a variety of fish species that thrive in
soft acidic water. It is recommended to verify the desired pH and KH levels by
testing with a pH and KH test kits on a regular basis. Peat Granules are
a concentrated filter media and will initially reduce pH and KH levels at a
quicker rate than fibrous peat. The recommended KH range is 50 to 120 mg/L
(approx. 3 to 7 dKH to support safe, stable pH levels) for proper
maintenance of certain species of fish. The replacement of Peat
Granular media is determined by testing and the diminishing effect it has on pH
and KH levels.
Our AAG Super Peat Granular offers a highly effective, natural method to soften water
and achieve proper pH values for many tropical fish. Use to control, manipulate
and satisfy the breeding requirements of many softer water, lower pH loving,
ornamental tropical fish and is known to promote luxurious live plant growth.
We suggest replacing 1 time monthly to bimonthly, or when your pH begins to
rise. |

Root Therm low-wattage Substrate Heater
This
is a complete system! No other parts are required to
make this unit work! You'll want to start with
a bare bottom tank (no substrate) and place suction cup cable
holders (comes with
6 to 10 suction cups) to bottom of tank, route all of your
cables similar to that of your electric oven coils.
Now, add your substrate, plug the supplied AC Adaptor into
the heating cable ends and plug it into the wall. SIMPLE!
THERE'S
NOTHING ELSE ON THE MARKET THAT'S BETTER PRICED THAN THIS
GREAT SYSTEM! |
Aquatic plants will display
healthy growth if they are provided with "warm roots"
- similar to the conditions they enjoy in their natural environment.
A temperature differential between the substrate and the water
induces water circulation, which prevents the formation of
stagnant areas and the build up of undesirable by-products
within the substrate.
Regular aquarium heating i.e.
thermostat controlled water heaters, will keep the water
above the substrate at a stable temperature however the
temperature of the substrate and the plants roots will always
be below the water temperature. Substrate heating
is therefore the logical solution for maintaining a positive
temperature differential, enabling optimum plant growth
and vitality.
Complete aquarium heating (water
and substrate) is best achieved by combining a standard
aquarium heater-thermostat (see ViaAqua heater available
below) for the water with the Root Therm, a low
voltage and affordable substrate heating system.
The warmth provided by the
Root Therm results in gentle water circulation,
thus allowing optimum root growth and providing a sound
basis for a successfully planted aquarium.
