Altum Angel
Pterophyllum
altum
Size: up to
6" in aquarium pH: 4.8 - 6.2 kH:
1 - 5o Temp:75-85oF
Chemicals: Black Water Expert
and Peat Granules found at Aquarium Chemicals
Food:
Omnivore diet
New Life Spectrum "Cichlid Formula or Garlic Flake Formula" found at Fish
Foods also Bloodworms
Origin: Although some experts claim that the true altum is
only known from the Rio Orinoco, museum records actually show that
the species has been collected from a much wider geographic area,
including: the upper Rio Negro basin in Brazil; the Rio Negro
drainage in Venezuela; Laja Vendita in Venezuela and many parts of
the Rio Orinoco and its tributaries from Colombia to Venezuela.
Size: Altums will max at around 15cm/6" body length and often
well over 30cm/12" in height. The latin name of this species means
"tall".
Aquarium: Given the very tall height of this species, it
really deserves a special aquarium with a much greater than normal
depth. Aim for something of at least 120 x 45 x 75cm/4' x 18" x 30".
Furnish the tank with pieces of bogwood. Plants can be added and are
usually left alone. Altums mix well with most placid Amazonian
fishes, including Discus and small tetras, though they may look upon
very small fishes as potential snacks.
Water: This species can be found in both blackwater and
whitewater (whitewater as in water that isn't black, not the stuff
you go rafting on!). The pH and hardness varies with the season and
the locality, but it usually falls somewhere between pH 4.0-6.5 with
minimal GH and KH. Temperature for these fish is better on the warm
side, say 27-30C. P. altum is usually found in lakes or other slow
flowing areas with deep water.
Breeding: Much more difficult to breed than the common angel,
Pterophyllum scalare, but definitely not impossible. In fact, more
than one fishkeeper has reported that the species can hybridise with
scalare. Follow the same guidelines as for P. scalare and you
probably won't go far wrong, although softer, more acidic conditions
will probably be needed to get wild fish to spawn.
Sexing: Like P. scalare, these are very difficult to sex and
most methods for doing so are not very reliable.
Similar species: At the moment, there are three valid species
in the genus Pterophyllum: P. altum, P. scalare and P. leopoldi
(which used to be called dumerillii). There are almost certainly
other subspecies or species in the genus that have yet to be
described. The so-called Peruvian altum, for example, closely
resembles P. scalare but has a lower number of scales in the lateral
series - it is erroneously sold as P. altum
In summary, it prefers a well-planted tank of at least 30 gallons
with soft, slightly acidic water. Rocks and driftwood can be added
to the aquarium, but leave plenty of space for swimming.
The Altum Angel needs to be fed a variety of foods including
vegetables as well as meaty foods. Feed a quality flake food as well
as live and frozen foods such as brine shrimp and bloodworms.

Extremely peaceful,
small omnivore, that's ideal for any community tank. Not
nearly as difficult to care for or ship as the Dwarf Blue or Dwarf
Gold Rams are. This super hardy ram is a best bet for even the
beginning fish keeper. The male (pictured above) can show
quite the display of color, the female is usually more drab. These Rams
require a well-planted tank. We do not offer sexed fish
because fish can die in transit. So, we will not ship "pairs" of
fish, you will want to take this into consideration when ordering.
Also know that Bolivian Rams are very faithful to each other once
paired off, but just because you have 1 male and 1 female does NOT
mean they will like each other and pair off, you should offer them
other potential candidates to choose from.

The blood parrot cichlid is a man-made
hybrid. The exact origins of the fish are unclear but it appears to
be a cross between a South American cichlid, likely the severum (Heros
severus) and a Central American cichlid, likely the midas
cichlid (Amphilophus citrinellus) or the red devil (Amphilophus
labiatus). When this fish first appeared a few years ago,
they were orange, now we have seen them in various colors ranging
from orange to red to purple Pictured above is a school of
nicely colored Mature Red Parrots about 2 years old. Good
color is accomplished by using good coloring foods such as New Life
Spectrum Cichlid formula. No other additives are necessary for
achieving colors. We ship young fish about 3 months old maybe
a little more, most will be drabby in color, at first, but with good
feeding and maturity your fish will be very colorful.

This beautiful hybrid is thought to be
the end product of cross breeding between the Cichlasoma
Trimaculatus, Cichlasoma Festae, Jingang Blood Parrot, and etc. To
date, a lot of better quality Flower Horn has been produced due to
the intensified eagerness of breeders to produce the best show
quality fish for the market. This fish is very hardy, and can
endure water conditions that are not suitable for most breeds of
aquarium fish. This is also part of the reason why the Flower Horn
is well received by many tropical fish hobbyists, We ship our

Protomelas "steveni taiwan" Taiwan
Reef
Size: up to 6" pH:8 Temp:78oF
Origin: Lake Malawi
Food:
New Life Spectrum "Cichlid Formula" found at
Fish Foods and Bloodworms
The Protomelas sp. "Steveni Taiwan" is
found in Lake Malawi along the Taiwan Reef. This fish is only
located in a few locations within the lake, although the reason why
is not known. They feed on the bio-cover from the rocks and
zooplankton in the water column. The appearance of this
species of fish is rather striking. The males sport a solid blue
face. The blue trails up the top region of the fish and on its
dorsal fin. The dorsal also marked with a solid white blaze that
starts at the tip of the nose and extends to the end tip of the
dorsal fin. The pectoral Fins are a dull brown but the Pelvic fins
are a rich orange color, trimmed in blue. Its flanks are a deep
orange, with blue starting at its dorsal fin. The anal fin is blue
and white at its base, but transitions to a red that is more
brilliant than any red that we have ever seen on any Rift Lake
cichlid! The females are metallic silver with six lateral
lines and two broken horizontal lines that make them appear to have
the letter "H" imprinted on them. Other than that, they would be
considered to be as drab as any Rift Lake cichlid female.
Should be kept in a group of 8-12
individuals minimum 75

The Electric Blue Cichlid originates from
Lake Malawi and does well with other aggressive cichlids, but will
be aggressive toward other smaller fish. Ideal candidate for
those of you that can't keep a planted tank as this fish will more
than likely uproot all plants introduced anyway. A rocky
terrain tank will be most suitable. This species is simple to keep, and breed, but
appropriate levels of salt and trace elements should be added to the

The Red Peacock Cichlid originates from
the Southern part of Lake Malawi. It is a
semi-aggressive omnivore. Juveniles of this species are
brownish in color with some vertical bars, but as they mature, the
males will start changing into a brighter orangy-red body with a
blue colored head. You should provide about 3 to 5 females to every
male in this species. The females have little to no color.
Females will hold eggs in her mouth (mouth-brood) for about 8-12
days. Their aquarium should be well-aquascaped with plenty of
rocks t | | |
