T-5 FACTS YOU SHOULD KNOW BEFORE YOU BUY
T-5 Fixtures themselves tend to be more expensive as an initial purchase for the fixture only, however, there are many positives to spending the dough on these fixtures. T-5’s are usually more energy efficient as they use less electricity then Compact Fluorescent Fixtures or T-8/T-12 Fixtures. The cost of T-5 bulbs are also much cheaper and they are almost virtually silent (no humming). So, in the long run you’ll be out less money with a T-5. For example: Power Compact Fixtures tend to be cheaper initially, but the cost of the replacement bulbs can get pricey. If you are planning on staying in this hobby, we suggest the T-5. If this is something you’re not sure about, then the Compact Fluorescent will do just fine.
T5 Bulbs are usually 5/8" diameter fluorescent tubes rather than the standard 1-1/2" diameter. This slim profile makes the Aquatic T5 Fluorescent system more efficient than standard fluorescent tubes. T5 fluorescent bulbs also put out more light than standard fluorescent lamps, power compacts and VHOs!
